Coco and charcoal

It was just after the new year had hit and we thought a trip to somewhere healthy was in order. As we love Instagram for finding new restaurants we had come across a hidden away little place that serves coco soft-whip, goji and other delights. This place is located on the Gold Coast, Australia in Clear Island Waters. Goji Granola Bar and Cafe is tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood with easy parking and access by car.

We set out as a group of four. One member decided to order the fruit toast and marmalade, while the rest of us went for poached eggs on toast with avocado.

The toast was a real hit! It was full of fruit and toasted to perfection. The marmalade was tangy and tasted of fresh oranges making us think of our visited to the market where we can purchase fresh oranges.

Fruit toast tasted great with the butter (we don’t usually eat butter)

Three of us opted for the eggs. We ordered two serves – one for our male friend and one for us to share. It came with two eggs, perfectly poached and two slices of toast.

This place is known for its smoothie goji bowls served with homemade granola. We went for the coco soft-whip i the duo of vanilla and charcoal. Apparently charcoal is good for hangovers.

Cost: $64 for four people and a holiday loading

Verdict: We enjoyed the food and the coco soft. The coffee was good but not as strong as we like.

Plants rock!

Wow, were we in for a  treat. We headed off for the new restaurant precinct called The Kitchens at Robina town centre. We had been down there a week or two earlier and checked out all the wonderful new places to  eat. That are so many options. We can guarantee that even the fussiest of appetites will be satisfied.  Not only can you get food to eat now but also flowers to take home or pick up Asian groceries if you like.

Why not pick up some flowers?

One of the places that took our fancy was a plant-based restaurant  specialising in vegan  food – Elixiba. It suited us because we love vegetarian and vegan foods as did our dining companion.

There were three of us meeting up for a quick meal after work, so this  tapas style restaurant suited us very well. We ordered some olives and edamame beans  to start. The olives were out of this world good – warm, soft and ever so tasty.

We opted for two special drinks: a kaffir lime spritzer and a rose and lemon spritzer.

We shared an interesting meal of three dishes: rice paper wrapped veggies with brazil nuts; samosa; coconut ‘calamari’. The coconut calamaris is named because of the way it looks – it is shredded and coated coconut deep fried with a salt and paper spice topping.

The decor and vibe is very pleasant and you can overlook the bar and kitchen.

Cost for three with non-alcoholic drinks $97

The verdict: Excellent service; great food; interesting drinks. Loved it. We will definitely be back.

A little bit more insight

The Kitchens  has many restaurants on offer with something to please every appetite.   In addition to restaurants, there are also some special stages that are dedicated to cooking demonstrations. One of the chefs  was the well-known George Calombaris  who was demonstrating at the time of opening.

Next time you visit we plan to try a very popular little place that specialises in Roti and Bun – The food looked so good we just cannot wait to give it a go.

The best plant based restaurant in the world: Can you guess where it is?

First, let us say in opening this blog post that we are huge fans of the Instagram account of Matthew Kenney. We have followed his posts for a long time mainly for the beautiful colours and designs that he does with his food.

So we really couldn’t resist making a booking. And, we were so keen that the day before our booking, we took a little walk past the restaurant so that would know how to find it the next night.

Getting excited about our dinner at Plant Food + Wine!

Because we decided to go to Hollywood earlier in the day and it ended up taking us about two hours each way on the bus we had to go directly to the restaurant.

On arrival we were offered a table in the garden, and since it was a
beautiful evening we took up the offer and sat down in a gorgeous
setting.

The wait staff were excellent and very attentive. We looked over the menu and decided to order a pre-dinner drink – Kombucha dog: Bev had strawberry and Wei had ginger.

Cheers!

We had trouble deciding what to order as everything just looks so wonderful. In the end we opted for some asparagus as a starter that we shared.

For the mains we ordered some ravioli with peas with white sauce and for our second main we ordered the zucchini lasagna. Wow both of these were absolutely delicious – we were so glad that we ordered them. We think the standout was the zucchini lasagna.

Because of the duty of being a blogger we thought we really must order some dessert. We thought we would try the chocolate tiramisu. We don’t know why but on the spur of the moment we also ordered a Reishi hot chocolate. What a delectably rich way to finish the meal.

The dining experience at this restaurant has to be among the peak experiences we have had eating out at a restaurant – the attention to detail, the taste, and the creativity is just absolutely stunning.
Love it!!!!

We are sure there are many stunning plant based restaurants in the world, but this surely must be one of them! Look them up Plant Food + Wine
