Ricks Shore is a newly opened restaurant on the coast. It is located in beautiful Burleigh Heads, with fabulous beach view. So we decided to check out this place on the last weekend of January 2016.
We ordered miso eggplant tacos, ocean trout tartare taco and fried tofu with smoked tomato jaewl on betel leaf to start our lunch. Trout taco was great with interesting flavours. Miso eggplant taco was okay but the fried tofu lacked enough taste for us.
For main dish, we decided to try the kingfish sashimi with avocado, ginger and horseradish, soft shell crab with Kim Chi, green apple and pickled papaya, and yellow curry with king prawn, turmeric, coconut, and kaffir lime leaf. For veggie, we ordered the wok-fried wombok with garlic, chilli, and oyster sauce.
Soft shell crab with kimchi was pretty good and tasty. Wok-fried wombok veggie was very nice, while the yellow curry was on sweet side and prawns were slightly tougher than ideal but still good.
For dessert, we went with the trendy soft serve ice cream. The two available flavours for the day were miso and green apple. You can also choose a topping such as matcha, salted caramel, chocolate or peanut butter on top of the ice cream. We selected matcha praline to go with our soft serve. We enjoyed the soft serve but couldn’t get our taste buds to really get the green apple taste, but we loved the flavour all the same. The miso was certainly different and grew on us over time. Liked these soft serves!!
Overall, the room was very noisy perhaps due to concrete floor. This improved as some tables left. Service was satisfactory to good but a bit slow at times due to the crowds and no real (wow) stand out moments, e.g., no description or positive vibes when food delivered.
In total we paid about $155 for all dishes plus 2 soft drinks (lemon lime bitters). We would return. It is great to see innovative good being done on GC.
