Foodie Indiya, who claims “Best Indian Curries on the Gold Coast”, locates on Tibbing Street, Nerang. We went there with a larger group for a banquet style menu.
The decor is very exotic Indian. Tables are divided by curtains, with vibrant colour and texture. The ambiance is very pleasing to the eyes.
Our banquet started with Pappadoms to share.
Then followed by three entrees including Veg Samosa, Onion Bhaji and Chicken Tikka; these were company by mint sauce and salad. The samosa was our favourite and of high quality, quite spicy. Since we are non meat eaters, we saved all the chicken for our cute Chiqu, who seemed really enjoyed the dish later that night.
For the main meal we had two curry dishes: one was Prawn Malabari – cooked with prawns, coconut cream and his secret spices. This is the signature dish at Foodie Indiya. The other was Veg Korma- assorted veggies cooked in cashew nut gravy with subtle fragrance of rose water. For all the curries, you can choose mild hot, medium hot and spicy hot. We chose spicy hot for the prawn dish and medium hot for the veggie dish.
We had a preference for the prawn dish, which was very fresh tasting and had some huge prawns. And it was HOT! So if you are not comfortable spicy food, medium hot will be perfect for you. The veggie curry dish was quite pleasant but it was a bit too sweet for us. We guessed maybe the chef put too much coconut milk when cooking the dish! Lol!
For our group, the restaurant provided unlimited plain rice, saffron rice and plain naan.
We were sooo full after finishing the main dish. But hold on, it was not the end yet! The restaurants offered three desserts for everybody to choose! Well, we can never resist the lure of desserts and always can find the room in our tummies for it!
We chose Mango Kulfi and Malai Kulfi. Yum yum yum!
This restaurant is BYO. Totally, the cost was $32 each including corkage. Our group members all said it was really great value for money.
