We had some great plans for our cake starting with the letter ‘F’. However, as the day approached it was unfortunate that one of us came down with a virus. Instead of being up and about and cooking a fruitcake, bed was the order of the day. A bit sad!
Since one of us was still feeling a little bit fragile we decided the best thing to do was to go to our local farmers market and pick up some of the best fruit buns you can find on the Gold Coast. These fruit buns are really filling and made with stoneground flour plus lots of beautiful juicy plump fruit. Yum!
We bought half a dozen buns and set our goal to photograph them at a place called Fingal, just over the border in New South Wales (Southern Gold Coast area). We have been there many times and we have a real affinity with this place because it is natural and somewhere you can walk and feel nature and look at some really beautiful views.

However, on the drive towards Fingal we happened to spot another place called Flat Rock Creek and this somehow really took our fancy on the spur of the moment. We’re not sure if that was because one of us was still a little bit woozy from the illness and couldn’t quite find the energy to drive any further or if the place just looked so attractive at that particular moment. Anyway, we made a quick decision to do a little photography mission as well as eat the fruit button at Flat Rock Creek.
It turned out to be a really beautiful location near a place called Tugun, one of the southern suburbs of the Gold Coast. Flat Rock Creek and the surround Mitchell Park is a pretty little place with lots of water and greenery and no shortage of birdlife: just very, very natural.
We ended up having a lot of fun just walking around this place taking in the dappled sunshine and strolling casually across to the ocean.
So our cake project led us to find another little gem of a park where we could enjoy some tranquil moments and need some beautiful fruit buns. Meanwhile we had a few good laughs but we took photos. Life is full of discovery!
Hope you find somewhere to discover soon and eat cake!
