We have wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. In fact, we tried to make a booking on a couple of occasions and it was already fully booked. So we were really pleased when we made our booking for a Wednesday evening in September.
Kiyomi is located in Jupiter’s Casino at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. On arrival, we were warmly greeted and escorted to our table. The ambience of the restaurant is really nice with some beautiful lighting and decoration.
We ordered our cart from the menu, which offers the diner and opportunity to share plates of food (a little bit like tapas). Since there was three of this dining we did the democratic thing and started by selecting one dish each. We chose salmon belly roll, shiso, avocado, teriyaki; grilled octopus, watermelon and green sauce; and, some tempura snapper with pepper and coriander. Each dish definitely lived up to our expectations but the outstanding winner in this round was the salmon belly roll.
For our next round of food we opted for some grilled prawns accompanied by a grilled lime.
We truly struggled when it came to ordering the dessert; we couldn’t choose between the signature desert of the restaurant and one of the specialties so our lovely waiter kindly brought out an uncooked version of a green tea fondant. The idea behind this dessert is that it is baked cake like dish with a soft filling inside.
The waiter told us because this is a special dish it takes a little longer to prepare. We were willing to wait and after about 15 minutes it arrived at our table. We can absolutely assure you that this dessert is a winner – the inside is soft runny and moist on the outside is a sort of crisp but soft at the same time. It was accompanied by some chocolate ice cream, which was also delicious.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this meal and for the three of us including drinks it cost $145.
