Melbourne Winter Exploration – Day 1

So excited to have the opportunity to visit one of our favourite Australian cities – Melbourne (7 August to 11 August). Five things we love about Melbourne:

  1. Coffee options
  2. Gelato (N2; Messina)
  3. Eating places
  4. Trams
  5. Gardens

Of course, a trip to Melbourne wouldn’t be complete without lots of coffee and food experiences.

Patricia, Cnr Little Bourke & Little William St
You can’t come to Melbourne and not look out for the best coffee place. We searched high and low – well we referred to Bean Hunter (ha) and we found Patricia. Tucked away down a little side street this place is always busy it seems. They specialise in coffee and it’s standing room only – there are no seats at Patricia but the coffee is worth waiting for.

Arbory, Flinders Walk, Melbourne
Lucky for us it was a clear even though fairly chilly day when we visited Arbory at the Flinders Street station.

Surrounded by heaters and looking out over the Yarra River we enjoyed the fish pie. We shared the pie as it was rather large. It had beautiful pastry and A filling of salmon and white fish in a creamy sauce. It was absolutely delicious.

Ruyi, 16 Liverpool Street
We arrived at Ruyi (a modern Chinese restaurant) and the place was buzzing. Modern decor – think nice white faded timber some lovely little pots with beautiful greenery in them.

This place modernise Chinese food with some interesting touches. There were some lovely pottery mugs that we used for a sparkling water and also for our lemongrass and green tea.

We ordered the soft shell crab, eggplant fries and a side of broccoli and garlic. Our conclusion was that the food was not good enough to draw us back in future. Things were generally acceptable it just wasn’t outstanding.
